Marci In Her Living Room
8 x 6 inches oil on canvas panel. Our plein air group decided on an interior...the weather was iffy.
Marci modeled for us. I couldn't make out exactly what many items were but just painted the shapes I saw. The massive urn was something very old from Turkey, I think, and used to brew tea. The lamp above was a floor lamp but I didn't like how it spliced the figure and beautiful chair so left that part out. I have no idea what all the stuff on the table was. Rich interiors like this really interest me and especially when red is explored. This painting is at auction on DailyPaintWorks. For more information or to bid click here sold

Road Behind Benbow
6 x 8 inches oil on canvas panel. I'm really liking these panels (Shark) which I got through ebay. They accept paint in a most pleasant way. It's hard to explain....They are only cotton but are so fine weaved they seem like linen. This is the first in a series I've planned for Benbow. I paint a 6 x 8 first and then on to a bigger if I like it. This is early morning light. Available through Daily Paint Works

Oaks at Community Park
I realized after starting with the panel vertical the characteristics of the oak are better suited for the horizontal....so I wiped it out (always hurts a little) and painted it on the horizontal. I'm wondering if I should have included figures to show the massiveness of the trees. Firemen were playing Frisbee in the adjacent field and there were painters under the trees but I couldn't see them clearly so I left them out.

Peach Roses in Round Clear Vase
20 x 20 oil on canvas. Another floral for the show. I Like painting flowers especially roses. Their lines are so full of expression and of course the colors are soft and beautiful. It's easy to go overboard and get too sweet so the stripes and deep cast shadows help with this. Painting is such a balancing act and demands constant attention. sold

Red Roses with Apple
I've begun painting for the upcoming show at Piante Gallery in June. Judy Evenson and I are sharing the gallery for the show. I always like to get the big ones done first then glide along with the less intense (usually) smaller pieces. This painting is 30 x 24 inches. It's painted alla prima which is wet into wet paint. When it dried in unfinished areas I had to repaint to maintain this approach. Red is a color in a different category.....one can't mess with it by adding other colors to lighten or darken and if you do the beautiful redness is destroyed. So these are reds right out of the tube and done with palette knife. For a darker red I used cad red deep....for the lightest cad scarlet. The rest of the items are studio props I use frequently. I love shiny reflective surfaces.

Red Roof, Feb Trees, Comm. Pk.
This was painted last week in the Community Park. A wonderful place to paint and just be. Locals use it for exercise and walking dogs etc. I was fascinated with the shadows on the bank and buildings and the undulating tree shapes. For more information or to bid go here

Blue Bowl, Red Pears
I've always loved these bright colors together and looked for the props to accomplish it. I first painted this setup many years ago in watercolor and it was not successful. I photographed the setup and put it away and just today painted this small panel from the photograph. It come allot closer to what I had in mind than the watercolor. This 6 x 6 panel is at auction on DailyPaintWorks. here
Formal Table with Bouquet
This small painting is from a photo and my feeling about it was very formal and quiet. The loose carefree way I frequently paint didn't seem right so I tightened things up and like the way it turned out. For more information or if you'd like to bid on this 6 x 6 inch painting go here sold
