Lately we've been drawing and painting the figure clothed and  I find this very exciting to change approaches. Clothing breaks up the figure into such nice shapes and really can make a painting more manageable.  This is oil on canvas panel 10 x 8 inches. 

 

"EEL AT RICHARDSON'S GROVE"

The weather has been delightful with plenty of sunshine so plein air painting is a must.  Winter light fascinates me be it overcast or sunny.  I'm drawn to the outside.  I like storms too but wimp out when it come to painting in it.  We're looking Southward here with the grove behind me.  Caltrans plans to widen Highway 101 through the grove and EPIC is campaigning to save the grove from encroachment. "ROSES ON PINK CLOTH"

"Roses on Pink Cloth" is oil on 8 x 8 inch canvas panel.  I painted it from a studio set up alla prima.  The slight difference in shape of the roses and the reflective surface of the silver pot were plenty enough reason for me to paint it.  1/29/11 re-listed on eBay..to bid CLICK HERE SOLD

"DRIFT BOAT"

While painting along the Eel River at Tooby Park a drift boat appeared on the scene and I was able to get a quick photo.  This was about the second day after a big rain and the river was just barely fish-able.  They were in some rapids here but some nicer fishing holes were just ahead. The river is such a wonderful color in winter after a rain and is a natural complement to the red of the bare willows.

"ROSES IN A JAR"

This painting had lots of starts and stops all week.  Many time I had to repaint an area that had dried in order to keep the 'wet in wet' look of alla prima painting and also for the edges I was after.  It did afford many 'fresh looks' at the painting and stopped me from falling in love too soon.  It measures 10 x 8 inches oil on canvas panel.  To bid on eBay CLICK HERE  SOLD
 

UNTITLED NUDE STUDY

I've been sick all week and not painting much. Sunday is my day to post on "Lost Coast Daily Painters" so I knew I had to come up with something. Opening an old flat file this little study was on top and expressed my sentiments exactly. Green nude on a little pink pillow. It measures 7 x 7 inches watercolor on cold pressed paper. "HORSE BARN"
